In
class we read the article "Getting Angry Can Be a Good Thing" by
Cecilia Munoz it was about how someone making her angry gave her the
determination to become the Vice President of the Office of Research, Advocacy
and Legislation at the National Council of La Raza. It all started when a close
friend of hers said to her that he thought the U.S. might someday go to war in
Latin America. He looked her in the eye and told her that if it happens, he
believes my parents belong in an internment camp just like the
Japanese-Americans during World War II, according to the article. She was
outraged that someone said that to her and the fact that it was someone that
was her friend. She was born in America but her parents weren’t, they moved
here and are immigrants. Since that has been said to her it gave her the
perseverance to become a member of the civil rights movement. Now,
she works to promote immigration rights to help poverty and discrimination of
Hispanic Americans. She actually used her angry in a positive way that lead to
help other immigrates like her parents. I think she did a smart thing, instead
of just being mad she found a way to make her anger into a good thing. She
should be proud of herself and I think she is doing a good job even though she doesn’t
feel like what she does is enough. Instead of letting her anger get the best of
her she took it upon herself to help immigrants so no one had to feel like how
she felt.
